About Design Built
Design Built is a progressive Architectural Design Firm that specialises in custom designed residential architecture. Our portfolio also extends to commercial, industrial and community buildings as well. As Australian qualified Architects we have over 15 years’ experience working with the private and Local Government sectors.
Founded in 2009 by Channa Senanayake, we specialise in creating beautiful, liveable spaces, and bespoke design tailored to context. Our success lies in our open, engaging hands on approach that involves a collaborative process and giving the client an experience to build your dream home which will meet your expectations and respects your time and budget.
Over the years we have worked on an array of residential projects across Sydney. From brand new houses and granny flats to additions, alterations and renovations, and we’ve worked with amazing clients under budgets large and small.
We are fascinated and intrigued by lifestyle and cultures and appreciate the differences in individuals from a variety of cultural and ethnic groups. The space we create addresses all differences and makes you feel belonged, welcomed and valued.

About Channa
While growing up in Sri Lanka, Channa was surrounded by works of Architecture done by his father who was a renowned Architect. Overhearing his father’s clients speaking highly of his work, and how graceful they were, a dream took shape. Like a perfect sketch transforming into the house of your dreams…… he followed in his father’s footsteps. He gained valuable initial experience at a leading Architectural firm in Sri Lanka and then cemented his higher education in Sydney.
After completing his Architecture studies at UNSW & UTS, he started his career in Sydney with a number of leading Architectural practices, where he worked on major construction projects in and around Sydney including the designing of the infrastructure needed for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. One of those stints included working for Burwood Council on the Burwood Civic Precinct where he was involved with projects such as the Burwood Library and the Burwood Welfare Centre. While working for Burwood Council he gained valuable experience on what is needed on the approval process and documentation needed for Development Approval in Local Government. He has also worked with John Holland, CPB Contractors and Transport NSW on major Infrastructure rail and road projects in NSW such as the South west Rail Link, North West Metro stations and WestConnex.

“What I love is that every project is different. A culmination of lifestyles and experiences of each homeowner. Their tastes, passions. Each home is a challenge. And seeing the joy on their faces at the end… priceless. After all, we are creating something for life…”
